Yes, Paul, I did not think this way but you are very correct. Technics TT, Denon 103 cartridges, Fostex speakers, “single girl with balalaika” music and Adcom CD players are kind of come along all together very well. It is not that I have something t...

Did you buy the Denon?I'm curious because Denon D-M31 (speakers not included) is on a recommended components list by the Swedish LTS (Sound Technical Society). Things with zero or low detected coloration, after meticulous listening tests, end up...
Can't say I share your fondness for either of the Koetsu or Shelter cartridges either (or especially the Denon 103!) None of these are top class in my humble opinion.
I sorry, I never was a fan of Denon-...
I do not think that my “resistance” to transformer preamplifiers” has to do with audio neutrality and particularly in context of “improved audio neutrality” as I do not think that neutrality might be “improved” (though it m...

Folks, This thread caught my attention, because here Romy waxes lyrically about the failings of the Denon Cartridges. Now I only consider ONE Denon worth bothering, the ORIGINAL 103, it is often inaccuratly called 103C. It has a medium compliance (ar...

I hope these friends of mine who clamed that that stupid Denon M31 might play music will read this post. After of a 3 weeks or living with Macondo I found myself having no radio. My portable playback, that does very well, is on my work. I do no...

I have a Fosell transport for some years now I upgraded from a CEC TL-1 which was miles behind...I use an EAD 7000 III DAC which I kept after having both the 9000 and the 7000, the mian difference between them is the preamp section of the 9000, so ...
I finally concluded that I need a better mono cartridge. Screw you Denon-102! I can’t listen this midrange pusher anymore!
Send it over to me Romy, I'll make sure the little offender doesn't escape! :) Brian (who lis...

I hope you do find some amplification that works, or new "way" of using the tannoy, as these driver still have several tricks up their sleeves, especially when compared to the hordes of mass crap that's for sale. What you refer to as the "deen ...
Anyway a couple of months ago a friend brought over a modded Denon multiplayer, I dont remember the model (I could look it up), it was highly modded, we were testing it with a projector and its Blue Ray capabilities, he then i...

Morning Mr. Natural Brian - be careful - you never know who's watching ... "Why, wasn't stock *H*I*F*I* enough for him? "You're getting the wrong idea about this . Anyway , it's not ruby , more sapphire, but I agree they're similar . ...

Absolutely .I was hoping to have impressions already, but events took an unexpected course.I'm also trying to get a re-tipped Dyna XX-1L from same people via a dealer, so they are busy with my stuff for sure right now .The new cant and diam...

Hi Guy, HAHAHA! yeah, I can see how you can say its similar to burnishing fecal matter. i still think its overly pleasant slow sound (which is still ok through my headphone setup and denon 103) can be improved upon with major sup...

Ok, was playing the tonearm today all day long. It dose work fine. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything further on about its sound as I finally concluded that I need a better mono cartridge. Screw you Denon-102! I can’t listen this midrange pusher any...

Sorry Romy, the broadcast was early in March, and I missed it too.Tonight I am going to the live performance.I think FMT struggled a bit with the sound this first year.Did you hear any of the Lyric broadcasts?I have been playing my Melodia vinyl with...
Here's a crazy thought... have you every tried driving the S2 directly from the Placette?! I know the 6E5p does some unique things but I wonder if it might be educational. The placette has a 7 ohm Zout right? Don't forget that that do...

Thanks Romy. I didn't ask for advice about brands or models, just knowing the technical features an arm should meet to work fine with the Shelter, the same you commented that the Denon needs high mass arms of about 30 grs. I'll read your post, s...

The new Denon amps are definitely on the soft side (my sister has one). They have lower wattage than you desire, however (assumed you mean 8 Ohm). The more powerful is in the 1000 € range with nothing in between....

Hi Romy,Yes, your description is exactly what I'm experiencing, and would explain why I didn't hear it with my past EAR 834P's when I was using a Benz Ace as opposed to the my current Denon 301.Many thanks.Freddy...
So, I would call Jubilee as a noise highlighting cartridge. (BTW, there is one subject regarding it that I need to look further ….)
This is VERY interesting phenomena that I am trying to decipher but so far unsuc...

Good afternoon Romy! I'm Pat Mattucci, and I'd like to respond to your post. How interesting you would post a response to my humble question to an obscure little group on my birthday, of all days. I'm honored. I also happen to be from the Philadelphia...

It is it; I officially close my books on my Shelter as I refuse to understand what it does. I pulled today from my shelf my collection of earliest Denon PCM recordings on LP the Denon record in end of the 78s. I generally do not like this entire seri...

Romy, Just a few notes.... I did use the term "crappy" in the connection with the tonearm in an ironic sense. Have you lived so long among US Americans you lost your sense of irony? Also, i do not suggest crappy Phonostages, merely ones with low inpu...

Hello Romy,Just thought I'd post my latest re-visit to this cartridge.I've played with this overthe last 2 years on and off between Helikon/VDH MC10. It was ok but did not make a big deal,so I carried on with the Lyra which was finebut not what ...

What your little G.I.P Laboratry does is absolutely irrelevant. They feed already pre-buttered customers and their moves are not important. Shindo and Cogent do the electromagnets for years but they doe little events with no influence. In high-audio ...

Recently, I have become aware of a strange phenomenon after lifting the tonearm at the end of the run-out groooves. The record surface noise keeps going when the stylus is no longer in contact with the record. I am using a Garrard 301 with SME 3...

the way you want to hear it!Bruno Walter, was a close friend to Mahler and very much a Classic only preference conductor. He does "The Titan" without over-emphasising it's late romantic origin. It is available on Columbia "<-360 SOUND->" STE...

I owned a Luxman LV-117 which I found pretty "right" musically driving some 93dB/w/m JBL's I had eons ago. In its time, there was a LV-103 which was also well regarded, but that I never listened to, so I cannot talk about it. They can ...

Ok, here is the final frequency response for each Super Milq channel. The souse was Denon CD player that rolls off a little atop. I did not measure the tweeter as I have no tweeters transformer plugged in yet. All secondary in amp are grounded. The m...

I, after being sick and tired form the Denon 102 misery, got the Ortofon Mono needle. I was under impression that Ortofon Mono was true mono cartridge with one coil. However, when I opened it up to mount it’s insert on my “Chernobyl Spinnaker” tonear...
